Lake Titicaca 4-Day Tour

  • A four-day exploration of Lake Titicaca, staying at the exclusive Suasi Island

  • Includes visits to perennial favourites Sillustani, Taquile Island & Uros Islands

Overview

At PeruNorth, we strongly feel that the best way to enjoy Titicaca is by spending as much time as possible on the lake itself, enjoying the magnificent views, and invigorating peacefulness.

Many people stay for a night at basic accommodation on Amantani or Taquile islands, but do not linger long to soak up the atmosphere, which is undoubtedly a highlight.

However, in the northeastern region of Lake Titicaca lies Suasi, a private 43-hectare (106-acre) island which is home to a 24-room hotel, surrounded by beautiful gardens and adorable vicuñas.

Built from local materials and run entirely on solar energy, this is the ideal place to lie in a hammock, enjoy the unique energy of the vast lake and re-charge one's batteries.

Once on the island, all meals are included and there are no set itineraries to follow, but there are plenty of optional activities to keep even the most restless visitor occupied.

4-day Lake Titicaca: Suasi Island Itinerary

Day 1: Puno: Airport Transfer, via Sillustani Ruins

On arrival at Juliaca Airport, we welcome you and transfer you in a private vehicle to your hotel.

On the way, we make a slight detour to arrive at the mysterious funerary towers of Sillustani, with a spectacular location, where you will be given a guided tour.
NB. If arriving later in the day, the tour of Sillustani can be done on Day 4.

After the tour, we continue to Puno, capital of the province, on the shores of Lake Titicaca.

Overnight at a Puno lakeside hotel, with breakfast.

Day 2: Suasi Island (All Meals)

This morning, after breakfast, we transfer you from your hotel to Puno’s main pier, in readiness to board the speedboat.

On the way to Suasi Island, we make a couple of stops, in the company of an English-speaking guide, to two of the Lake Titicaca's best-known attractions:

  • the floating Uros Islands, that are made of totora reeds, by the Aymara-speaking residents.

  • Taquile Island: this is a beautiful natural island in the lake, 45 km (28 miles) from Puno, and home to around 2,200 people, whose mother tongue is Quechua.

We arrive at Suasi Hotel at lunchtime, where we are welcomed and given a short explanatory tour of the property, followed by a BBQ lunch.

The rest of the day is free to relax and explore your new surroundings.

The suggested activity for the late afternoon is a trek to Mount Itapilluni, which takes approximately two hours, at a gentle pace.

Dinner is provided at the hotel.

Overnight on Suasi Island.

The day is free to spend as you wish, but there are a number of activities available:

At the appropriate time, we transfer by speedboat from Suasi Island to the village of Cambria, and from there make the vehicle transfer to Juliaca Airport, in time for your onward flight.

Alternatively, you may wish to be returned to Puno, in order to continue overland to Cusco, Arequipa or Bolivia. This can easily be arranged.

What our clients say about the Lake Titicaca itinerary:

We were both grateful for both your sage advice and flawless organisation of our trip to Lake Titicaca. You tailored a short programme covering exactly what we wanted, and the whole thing was spectacular.

Isla Suasi is indescribably beautiful. The hotel is wonderful. The staff friendly. The food good. But it is the location that makes it special. The island is easily explorable by foot and the views of the lake are breathtaking.

A particular highlight are the vicuñas on the island - it’s incredible to see them pop their heads up just a few yards away as you’re walking around, or see them taking a drink from the lake by the shore.

If you’re seeking peace, quiet and beauty, I can’t recommend this place enough.
