The Department of Piura - along with Tumbes - is known as Peru's premier northern beach destination, with hotels overlooking the Pacific Ocean and allowing direct access to the pristine beaches.

The best-known beachside accommodation is to be found along a stretch of coast beginning in Organos and ending in Mancora, which is a three-hour drive from the airport in the city of Piura. It is only a two-hour drive from Tumbes Airport, or an hour from Talara Airport, but there are fewer daily flights from/to Lima to choose from.

Away from the coast, there are pockets of Equatorial Dry Forest, and it is possible to stay at an eco-ranch dedicated to the preservation of this environment and that offers many adventure activities.
