This is a review of a nine-day itinerary, starting in Calafate, Argentina and ending in Santiago de Chile, taking in El Chalten, Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine along the way.
This is a review of a nine-day itinerary, starting at Jaen Airport, spending five nights in the Chachapoyas region, visiting various ruins and Gocta Waterfall, before driving to Tarapoto for three nights at Pumarinri Amazon Lodge in the montane rainforest:
“Overall, we had a great trip and saw some incredible things …
We traveled to Peru in late August 2018. I had been there once before, about 20 years ago, focused on what is now known as the "gringo trail" in the South. This was my partner’s first trip to South America, so in addition to the South, wanted to also get off the beaten track up North.
Luckily, I found Miles and PeruNorth …. He has lots of information about Peru overall, and especially the North. We had a rough itinerary and Miles gave me several tips re: destinations, flights and treks.
I first met explorer John Leivers at South American Explorers in 2007. Like many visitors to the clubhouse in urban Miraflores, he was dressed as if was just about to embark on an expedition to search for El Dorado - breathable fabrics, khaki colours, wide-brimmed hat and a well-worn rucksack that did not leave his back. But unlike other visitors, this really was the uniform of his day job!
In this age of social media, we were able to keep a close track on the progress of Anglo-Malaysian clients, Andy & Julia Little, as they travelled from Lima to The Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu to Cusco to Lake Titicaca (both Peruvian and Bolivian sides) and back to Lima. Here is a photographic journal of their 'exciting and action-packed' two-week journey.
Tarapoto has long been known amongst Peruvians - especially those from the coast - as a place to enjoy tropical heat and Amazonian jungle flavour, without the need to venture deep into the rainforest.
While there are some excellent lodges in the region, most domestic visitors tend to stay in a city hotel, or at a family-oriented resort, and go on excursions from there. Now the excursion offering is expanding to incorporate more adventure activities.
Here is PeruNorth’s selection of the best five.
